History of SMISS AP
The SMISS AP was established in November of 2019 as the first international section of SMISS. The initial organization included eight directors and fifty-eight faculty members.

The first annual meeting was held virtually from Seoul due to the COVID‑19 pandemic.
It was organized in collaboration with the Korean Spinal Neurosurgical Society (KSNS).
Presidents: Jin‑Sung Kim and S.W. Park.

The 2nd annual meeting was held in Osaka, Japan combined with international MIST congress of Japan MIST society. Yoshihisa Kotani and Masato Tanaka served as the president. The total of sixty-six general papers gathered from all AP, Europe and south America.

The 3rd annual meeting was held in Melbourne, Australia, together with SpineWeek. The meeting included six invited sessions and 124 general papers from all over the AP area. Thirteen US SMISS faculties also participated.

4th annual meeting was held in Grand Hyatt hotel, Hong Kong. Raymond Yip and Philip Cheung served as the president and vice president. There were 162 general papers gathering with 43 invited faculties, leading to a great success.

The 5th annual meeting was held in Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, India, combined with MISSAB and Bombay spine society. The meeting was tremendously successful with 715 participants by the efforts of president Arvind Kukkarni and organizing secretary Ayush Sharma.

Mission of SMISS AP
The mission of SMISS AP society is to help for every spinal surgery being “minimally invasive”, “safe”, and “accurate” in the super-elderly society of the world. The SMISS AP serves as the organization to educate clinical techniques and knowledge to next generations for the world-wide health care.
